Abstract

In this study, we divided the quality of mathematics instructions into five factors. We then measured the instructional quality of elective courses for mathematics in high school. To do this, we used the MIQP (Instructional Quality Profile for Mathematics that was developed based on the IQP in a previous research, and selected three subjects, which were mathematics (Math Ⅱ), probability and statistics (Pro. & Stat.), and calculus(CalⅠ). The results for this study were as follows: First, in terms of the consistency of teaching goals and contents presentation of a textbook, two courses of MathⅡ and Pro. & Stat. were of insufficient levels for many teaching goals. On the other hand, while the CalⅠ course was above the normal level. Second, in terms of the consistency of teaching goals and test, two courses of MathⅡ and Pro. & Stat. were lacking in level, while the CalⅠ course was in a normal level. Third, in terms of the consistency of content presentation for textbooks and tests, two courses of Pro. & Stat. and Cal Ⅰ were overally normal or good. On the other hand, the MathⅡ course was lower. Fourth, in terms of adequacy of content presentation of textbooks, more than 25% of the teaching goals were below the required level in all the three courses. Fifth, in terms of adequacy of test, the quality of test items were good in all three courses. However, the redistribution of the number of items considering the importance of teaching goals was required.
